This chart shows us the top 30 most popular files on our site. Each file will be linked. (They're not linked in our example, but they will be when you read your own stats.) If you're not sure where the actual file is, just click the link, and you'll see. You'll see a file that's just a slash ( / ) in your stats. In our case, it's number one. That file is your index file; it's your actual home page file. Usually, it's good to see that file towards the top. Most people want visitors to come into their site from the homepage (as opposed to coming into the site at say, the Contact Us page, for example). Sometimes you might offer a special, or promote a particular page. You would track that page's popularity here. For example, let's say you had an ad in the newspaper, highlighting your February markdowns. And let's say you wanted to track the efficacy of that ad. You could build a page called www.my-business.com/febmarkpaper. Don't advertise that address anywhere else but that newspaper ad. At the end of the month, see how many hits /febmarkpaper got. You'll know that hits to that page came from that newspaper add ONLY!
This chart shows us the top 10 most viewed files based on how much transfer was generated from them. If your site has lots of pictures, movies, or music, then those files (which are larger) might show up here. You can see that our #1 file (based on how much it transferred) is leftframe.html. Our number #1 file based on hits is actually #8 when ranked by size. All that really means is that leftframe.html is bigger than our index file ( / ).
